Ski Touring Montenegro

The programme may be slightly different from the one listed below as we are preparing... a surprise.

The other logistical details remain - the destination (in the broadest sense!), costs, accommodation and transport.

  I don't think you know much about Ski Touring Montenegro. Although rafting on Tara and hiking in Durmitor you've certainly heard of! Well, in winter the north of the country with a population the size of Brasov county is fabulous. With two tiny mountain resorts and plenty of steep, sprawling adventure terrain, Montenegro is a winter touring paradise. The maximum altitude is 2532 on the peak of Bobotov Kuk, a little shorter than our Negoiul and about as difficult in winter. Not in our plans this time as we have more tempting seals to walk!

We look forward to hosting you in Montenegro's winter capital, ZABLJAK! Zabljak is offerable in all snow conditions as we know both exposed routes for ideal conditions and more conservative routes, sheltered by the forest but beautifully hard and friendly to walk.

Here... we actually end our Montenegrin journey as we spend the first three days in Prokletije, the massif divided between three countries!

The Prokletije, the 'cursed mountains', are the southernmost branch of the Dinaric Alps and a wonderful mix of wilderness, isolation and time-forgotten life.

We spend three days here, in magnificent snowy conditions say our local friends!

The second part of the tour takes place at our "home" in Durmitor, the massif we love and "haunt" in summer and winter since 2010.

Can I come to Ski Touring Montenegro?

Of course if:

• you ski/board red slopes with ease and already have at least a modicum of off-piste sliding experience (or at least the intention to :) )
• physical condition allows you to go up/down on touring skis or splitboard with +1000 - 1200 m difference in level over a day
• you come with full ski or splitboard equipment, personal or rented
• you can make hill/valley and valley/valley transitions in reasonable time without holding the group back

The tour is aimed at those who can go uphill and especially downhill in changing snow conditions* **

Places: maximum 12, of which 4 are occupied.

 

Transport: by 8+1 seat bus (4 seats available) or by private car.

We only travel with ID!

We travel in comfortable minibuses from the country and spend our evenings in mountain huts near our proposed routes. The scenery is beautiful and we plan to spend the days of the tour high up on remote ridges, but we're also a stone's throw from the hustle and bustle of the ski resorts if we fancy a beer in public in the evening or shopping. That's the second half of the tour only.
